Texas Law Firm Helping People with Child Support and Related Matters

Child support is a form of monetary payment that is made on a monthly basis by one parent to another parent.  Child support payments are supposed to be utilized for the child's day-to-day needs and must be paid until the child reaches the adult age of 18, unless there is a change of circumstances, such as a loss of job or a substantial decrease in wages.

Texas Child Support and Number of Children

In the state of Texas, child support payments will be based upon the total gross income of each parent and also the number of children the parents have together.  The more children the parents have together, the more the court ordered child support payments will be.  The court will look at the total gross income a parent has and order a parent to pay a percentage of that income.  Percentages are based upon the amount of children the parent must support and are also listed below:

  • 1 child -      20% of income
  • 2 children - 25% of income
  • 3 children - 30% of income
  • 4 children - 35% of income
  • 5 children - 40% of income
